Liz Truss, who has been serving as the country’s foreign minister for the past 12 months, has been named as the Conservative Party’s new leader. She is formally chosen by Queen Elizabeth to serve as the next prime minister of the United Kingdom<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Mary Elizabeth Truss, a British politician born on July 26, 1975, was recently elected as the Conservative Party’s leader and sworn in as the country’s new prime minister. Since 2021, she has held the positions of Minister for Women and Equalities and Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs.<\/p>\n

Since 2010, Truss has been as the South West Norfolk district’s Member of Parliament (MP). Under Prime Ministers Theresa May, Boris Johnson, and David Cameron, she held a number of Cabinet positions. <\/p>\n

Earlier, Truss opposed the Brexit but after joining Boris Johnson’s government, she started supporting the idea of leaving the European Union. <\/p>\n

Truss was president of the Oxford University Liberal Democrats and a student at Oxford’s Merton College. She received her degree in 1996 and joined the Conservative Party. In the general election of 2010, Truss won the South West Norfolk district. She advocated for change as a backbencher in a number of policy areas, including childcare, mathematics instruction, and the economy. She established the Conservative MPs’ Free Enterprise Group. <\/p>\n

Truss has two daughters with her husband, the accountant Hugh O’Leary. The Prime Minister of United Kingdom was raised in Leeds, in the north of England, after being born in Oxford. She has a degree in philosophy, politics, and economics from Oxford University, she spent some time in Canada as well.<\/p>\n

The newly elected Prime Minister has promised to reduce taxes and address a crisis in the standard of living brought on by skyrocketing energy costs associated with the conflict in Ukraine. Following Theresa May and Margaret Thatcher, Truss is the third female prime minister of the UK.
