Allegations

It was discovered that John Sidoti had participated in major corruption. John Sidoti, a NSW lawmaker, was found to have participated in significant corruption and has since been suspended from the legislature. Prior to the vote, Mr. Sidoti spoke to the legislature. He turned down the Premier’s resignation request last month. Drummoyne’s representative has promised to contest the ICAC’s findings and defend his name. After the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) issued a severe corrupt finding against the former Liberal MP last month, the NSW government proceeded to suspend him. The vote, which was supported by both Labor and the cross benchers, will result in Mr. Sidoti’s suspension at least till the end of the legislative session in November. The ICAC concluded that Mr. Sidoti had inappropriately influenced the renovation of the Five Dock town centre by using his position. According to the ICAC findings, Mr. Sidoti wanted planning restrictions loosened so that three properties owned by his family could take advantage of development potential. Following the findings, the premier phoned Mr. Sidoti and requested that he resign from the House of Representatives.

Conclusion

Sidoti is the second government MP to be suspended in a motion brought by the government. He stood aside as a minister in Gladys Berejiklian’s government in the wake of the corruption investigation in March 2021.
