State and Territory Nominated visa places  2022-23

Overview

Places for state and territory-nominated visas for 2022–23 have been announced. Victoria received the most nominations for skilled visas, and NSW has the most openings for skilled work regional visas.

The 2022–23 Migration Program has been created to accelerate social cohesion outcomes and Australia’s economic recovery in the post–pandemic climate.

The Migration Program will be composed as follows, with a planning level of 160,000 places:

  1. Skill: 109,900 positions are available in the skill stream, which aims to increase the economy’s capacity for production and address skill shortages in the labour market, particularly in regional Australia.
  2. Family (50,000 slots): Partner visas make up the majority of this stream, which allows Australians to reunite with family members who live abroad and gives them access to citizenship. In order to promote family reunion, Partner visas will be issued on a demand-driven basis starting in 2022–2023 This will speed up the processing of numerous applications for Partner visas
  3. Special Eligibility: 100 slots are available in the Special Eligibility stream, which includes visas for people in unique situations, such as Australian permanent residents who are returning home after time spent abroad.

In order to adapt to shifting economic conditions, the Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services, and Multicultural Affairs may periodically redistribute positions among the categories of Skill stream visas.

Each year, the Migration Program’s scope and makeup are determined in tandem with the budgeting process for the Australian government. The programme is planned taking into account input from the public, economic and labour force estimates, international research, net migration abroad, and economic and fiscal modelling.

The following visa categories’ nomination allotment are made available to States and Territories under the 2022–23 Migration Program settings:

  • Skilled – Nominated (subclass 190)
  • Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (subclass 491)
