Ankitas Heart-warming Story of Giving Life and Pursuing Dreams at the World Transplant Games

INTRODUCTION:

At the 24th World Transplant Games in Perth, India is being represented by Ankita Shrivastava, a liver donor-turned-record-holding athlete.

This international celebration of organ donation and the tenacity of both donors and recipients brings transplant patients from all over the world together to compete in a variety of sporting disciplines.

The World Transplant Games are currently taking place in Perth, and 29-year-old athlete Ankita Shrivastava from the central state of Madhya Pradesh is grabbing attention there. Her remarkable transformation from a liver donor to a world-record-holding athlete is an uplifting tale of tenacity and fortitude.

Ankita made the decision to become her mother’s organ donor in 2007 after learning that she had liver cirrhosis, which eventually resulted in liver failure. She gave 74% of her liver after finding a match for her blood type in order to save her mother’s life.

Unfortunately, Ankita’s mother passed away even after the liver transplant in 2014, and the treatment caused her to struggle with her physical health for about two years. She persisted nonetheless and kept on pursuing her love of athletics.

Ankita’s diligence and perseverance were rewarded when she was selected to compete for India at the 2019 World Transplant Games and came away with three medals, including two golds.

She will be taking part in the international competition once more this year, where transplant patients from all over the world will gather to display their athletic prowess and honour the spirit of organ donation.

Ankita is not only a skilled athlete but also an experienced businesswoman who, together with her two business partners, has created eight businesses. She wants to open fitness and health centres in airports across India to motivate people to take care of their physical and mental health.

Ankita has been a role model for many thanks to her motivational tale of triumph over adversity and her dedication to raising awareness about organ donation.

She wants to encourage others to donate their organs and to celebrate life by taking part in the World Transplant Games.
