Released on December 16th 2022– Avatar 2: The Way of Water is the much-awaited sequel to James Cameron’s 2009 Avatar. So far, the film has received positive response from audiences across the world and could possibly break the previous record. While that’s laudable, the ordinary audience like You and I are primarily looking forward to its OTT release. As of now, it is clearly known that Avatar 2 is available on Disney+ due being the franchise owner, but it’s unclear when it’ll be available on other OTT platforms.

Theatre: Avatar 2 is available in all theatres around you. Don’t forget to check your local showtimes before booking the tickets.

Guess it depends on the theatre you watch it in, Avatar 2 is available in both 3D and standard versions. You must put on 3D glasses if you would like the full Avatar treatment in the sequel version. It is not available on any OTT platform yet.

OTT platform: Disney+ is expected to launch the film on their OTT platform. Indian OTT giant Hotstar has a long exclusive partnership with Disney Plus with almost all Disney blockbusters available on the app. Indians will be able to watch the movie via Hotstar. But they need to have the Premium subscription of the platform.

Disney+ usually launches the films on their platform 45 days after the theatrical release. Following this trend, Avatar 2 is currently expected to release digitally in early February. However, the film is already a huge blockbuster at the theatres. The original Avatar had been performing at the box office for over 42 weeks. If this is also the case with the sequel, then we may not see its release in the OTT till the middle of 2023.

Will it be available on Netflix and other OTT platforms?

Avatar 2 won’t probably be out on Netflix since it will move straight to Disney+ following its cinematic release, despite the fact that the streaming service already has agreements and ties with several of the biggest film distributors on the planet.

There is no news yet if the film will be available on any other OTT platform.

Will there be a sequel?

It is just the second of a 5 part series as announced by James Cameron in 2006. Organisations such as the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute named the sequel of Avatar as one of the top ten films of 2022. The film has received numerous recognitions, nominations for Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Director at the 80th Golden Globe Awards.

The third sequel of the film is expected to release in 2024.
