With Web Series being the norm wildly overtaking cinemas across the country, this blog takes a look at some of the best Indian Web Series on Amazon Prime Video.

1) Mirzapur

Mirzapur being the first in its accurate portrayal of the mafia rivalry and gang wars in Uttar Pradesh and while it is arguable that the language used is distasteful it has to be one of the top Indian web series churned out by far.

It explores the truth of how life is for two brothers set out to save their father from the reigning don and fatefully end up in servitude to him. Intertwining multiple characters including the Don’s son in a dangerous love triangle with one of the brothers and their respective love interest, the series goes forth showing their character development into hardened criminals. Stalwarts like Pankaj Tripathi and Ali Fazal display exceptional performances in this must watch series.

2) Pataal Lok

Pataal Lok revolves around an underperforming police officer and how his life is turned upside down when he is brought in to investigate an assassination attempt on a well known journalist. Jaideep Ahlawat brilliantly portrays his role as the investigating officer as well as a father and husband while the series depicts the issues in his personal life.

The series leaves the viewers in shock and awe at multiple points as the officer realises there is a bigger ploy afoot and everyone involved in the assassination attempt including him are just pawns on an intricate chess board.

The series addresses multiple other issues plaguing the country such as gender discrimination, minority discrimination and so on and is definitely a show you could binge watch on a lazy night home.

3) Tandav

For all the politics lovers reading this, Tandav is the show for you. One of the most stellar performances of Saif Ali Khan’s career as he is depicted as a politician in a race to be the Prime Minister of India, a position occupied by his deceased father.

The show accurately displays the level of politics and the level at which it starts in our country, along with the ability the characters possess to do anything to gain power. The series manages to keep the viewer hooked with shocking revelations throughout as well as showing the ugly side of politics and the effect it has on the common people who get sucked into its whirlpool completely unaware of their fate. A series leaving people desperate for answers and already asking for the second season.

4) Family Man

If you’re looking for a bit of satire intermingled with seriousness then Family Man is a must watch. Manoj Bajpayee takes the lead as a “family man” and a secret service agent. The show is different in the way that while it does show the usual action filled fight scenes, the twists and turns of the thriller that it is and the intelligent plotting, what most stands out in the show is how the protagonist handles his family life as a father and husband while balancing it with his national duty.

Both seasons progress extremely fast and keep the viewer captivated at all times while also showing Bajpayee’s character transformation across both seasons and fluidity in the story line. The show also focuses on how the secret service isn’t as glamorous a job as portrayed in the James Bond movies and feeds the audience a slice of reality. 100% a show you would recommend.

5) Breathe: Into the Shadows

At the final spot we have Breathe : Into the Shadows. Abhishek Bachan’s return to acting couldn’t have come in a better project. He plays the role of a psychologist whose daughter is kidnapped post which his entire life is sucked into turmoil as he is forced to play a sick game with the kidnapper in hopes of getting his daughter back safely.

Amit Sadh plays the role of the Police officer charged with solving the case and the series has an enthralling premise as to how it develops over time leading to a shocking truth that will leave the viewers mind blown. A suspenseful and thrilling watch and definitely makes the top 5 Indian Web Series over all.
