Why Did BCCI Announce the Schedule for Only the First 15 Days of IPL?
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently revealed the schedule for the first 15 days of the IPL. But why didn’t they share the full schedule, and when can we expect the rest?
The reason is that the IPL dates overlap with India’s General Elections in 2024. The Election Commission will announce the polling dates in mid-March. So, the BCCI wants to wait for these dates before finalising the rest of the IPL schedule.
This isn’t new. In 2019, during the General Elections, the BCCI only announced the schedule for the first two weeks. They waited to see how the elections would affect organising IPL matches across the country before sharing the rest of the schedule.
Despite the elections, the IPL isn’t moving. The BCCI plans to keep the tournament in India.
This year’s IPL is crucial for players aiming to make it to the 2024 T20 World Cup squad. National selectors will be at IPL matches to watch players closely and make decisions for the ICC event later this year.
There’s also been interesting news about team captains. Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian team in the T20 World Cup. This adds an exciting twist to the Mumbai Indians, as Hardik Pandya was named captain before, but Rohit’s return to the T20I team changes things up.
CONCLUSION:
As cricket fans eagerly await the announcement of the remaining IPL fixtures, the anticipation for yet another thrilling season of cricket continues to build. Stay tuned for further updates as the BCCI finalises the schedule for the remainder of IPL 2024.
