Hobart, Tasmania is the second oldest city in Australia and although it’s not as famous as the other cities, it has its unique composition. Unlike the rest of Australia, Hobart has 4 distinct seasons and is more environmentally appealing.
For an Indian relocating to Hobart, the weather is much like the one at home albeit with a miniscule Indian population. That’s why in this blog we’ll help you narrow down to the best suburbs for an Indian to live comfortably in Hobart. Let’s take a look at those suburbs.
01. Lindisfarne

Lindisfarne is located to the north-east of Hobart and about 5-6 km from the Central Business District (CBD). Although it isn’t particularly far, it takes about 22 mins to reach the CBD from Lindisfarne. Lindisfarne is by far the best place to raise a family due to being close to educational institutions and housing prices being considerably affordable. Perhaps in all of Hobart, Lindisfarne is the only place where residential units start at $300,000+.
As for activity zones, there’s Lindisfarne village for everything from groceries to other essentials. There’s also a decently large recreational park with a playing field for cricket and tennis.
02. North Hobart

North Hobart lies at a mere 1 km distance from the Hobart Central business district and thanks to that it has excellent connectivity through shuttles and buses. North Hobart has plenty of educational institutions nearby making it a perfect spot for families but apart from that it has perhaps the best nightlife in Hobart. Best thing about North Hobart is its accommodation costs are significantly lower than the Central Business District but slightly higher than Lindisfarne. Basically this is the spot where you can have everything on budget.
03. Sandy bay

Sandy bay is the second best destination for Indian residents in Hobart for 2 major reasons. Firstly, the university of Tasmania is located here and second— it has one of the most gorgeous beaches and bars. If you’re seeking a pompous yet quiet place, this is it. The accommodation around here are rather high, but the living standards and connectivity make it worthwhile.
04. Hobart Central Business District.

Hobart Central Business District (CBD) is the heart of Hobart and is unquestionably the best city to live in Hobart. Other than its rich historical value, it also features wonderful nightlife and entertainment. Being a famous spot, one should expect rentals and home ownership costs to be on the higher side, yet slightly lower than Sandy bay. This is also the place where one can find Indian themed restaurants. Overall, it’s the best place to be in all of Hobart.
Conclusion:
Hobart isn’t a particularly large city but it has its own charm and well-established infrastructure. Any Indian looking to relocate to Hobart must understand that it is a laid back place that lacks some of the charms that the larger cities like Melbourne, Brisbane, and Sydney have. But if you’re looking for affordable yet quality living standards, Hobart is highly recommended.
